Calendar FAQs |
| |
How provisional is this calendar? |
| |
It is still very provisional. We’ve been working on it with the BRSCC and some of the circuits and other organisations for a few weeks now. We’re hopeful it will stay unchanged but all it needs is for one major series to alter their dates and the fallout affects every championship’s calendar. |
| |
Why are there 9 rounds? |
| |
The intention was to drop to 8 rounds with 4 or 5 double headers – some of the double headers being a slightly new to us “short” format. The 8 race calendar had one very big gap in it – of about 2 months and when we were offered a suitable meeting to fill that gap we decided to accept all 9 meetings. It’s very provisional and this could easily end up being reduced back to the original 8 meeting format. |

Why is there no race at the Britcar 24 hour? |
| |
The simple answer is numbers vs cost. In 2011 ARCA lost a lot of money on this event. It is an event where ARCA has to buy the grid early in the season. For it to break even, with entry fees at the level we set them at in 2011, we need about 32 – 34 cars on the grid. In 2011 we had 19 cars. ARCA cannot afford to take the risk of committing to this type of event unless we are confident of entries or we can find someone to sponsor the event and cover the shortfall. |

What about another Silverstone GP date or Brands GP? |
| |
Just like the position we found ourselves in for the Britcar 24 hour meeting the BRSCC were in for the Brands GP round in 2011. They purchased a grid on our behalf from MSV and based the costs on us getting a healthy grid. We didn’t and they lost a significant amount on that event. The cost of entry fees on the Brands GP or Silverstone GP circuits can only be kept to an acceptable level if grid numbers are significantly higher – both of these circuits are licenced to run a very large grid. We did look at sharing a grid with another championship but a suitable championship / meeting could not be found. Let's hope numbers improve and we can return to these circuits in 2013. |

| |
So how will the new “short” double headers work? |
| |
A number of competitors have asked for this in the past. It particularly lends itself to shorter circuits and events that have to be run over 1 day – as is always the case at Oulton Park and is often the case at places like Castle Combe. The intention is to have 2 of these meetings in 2012, the opening event on the Silverstone National circuit and the October meeting at Castle Come (and it’s not a mis-print, the Combe race is on a Sunday). We have requested that our participation in the first event at Silverstone is all during one day of this two day meeting. For both Silverstone and Castle Combe each meeting will be two full rounds of the championship and will be made up of a 15 minute qualifying session and two 15 minute races. The entry fees have yet to be set but given the track time and “set up” time required we are expecting entry fees for these events to be under £250. |

What is the format for Cadwell, Snetterton (July) and Donington Park? |
| |
We plan for these to be conventional two day double header meetings. For Cadwell and Donington we expect these to be a 20 minute qualifying session followed by a 20 minute race on the Saturday with a second 20 minute race on the Sunday with no separate qualifying session.
For Snetterton in July this will be a 2 day meeting with two full rounds with their own qualifying session. One day will see a 20 minute race on the '300' circuit whilst the other day will see a 15 minute race on the '200' circuit. |
| |
I hear Snetterton in July will be a big weekend for the Championship |
| |
That’s correct. We have a number of things planned for this weekend. Keep an eye on the website, as soon as we can we will announce the events planned for the weekend. |
| |
The normal single rounds – will they all be over one day? |
| |
Yes, the races at Snetterton in May, Rockingham, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park will be qualifying and racing on one day. Where we have specified 2 days on the calendar it is because it is a 2 day meeting and the day of our qualifying and race has yet to be confirmed. The Castle Come meeting will also be over just one day, the Sunday, and we have requested that the opening meeting at Silverstone is over just one day. |
