A number of the MSA "Blue Book" regulations for all UK championships changed at the start of 2006.
These particularly apply to some of the standards of safety equiptment required to compete in all Championships including the 2006 Alfa Romeo Championship.
If you did not race in 2006 but intend to in 2007 then please make sure your car complies with these regulations.
Please be aware that if your car and safety equiptment does not comply then you will not be able to race in 2007.
If you are aware of any significant changes for 2007 please let me know details and the source of your information. Email them to unabated@tesco.net
Periods A - E and A - F as referred to in the following extracts from the 2006 Blue Book refer to cars built up to dates in the 1960's - See the details for "Period Defined Vehicles (Non Rally)" in Section P on page 223 of the 2006 Yearbook.

Safety Harness
From 1st January 2006, all harnesses used in MSA events must be FIA homologated.
A label clearly identifies a "Not Valid After" date. Once this date has passed , the harness is no longer FIA homologated.

2006 MSA Competitors' Yearbook
The critical section in the 2006 "Blue Book" is Section J Paragraph 20.14.2 - "Be fitted with currently FIA homologated safety harness to be worn at all times by the driver during training, practice and competition unless the vehicle was constructed in periods A to E."

Fire Extinguisher
From 1st January 2006, cars competing in the Alfa Romeo Championship require a plumbed-in fire extinguisher system with a minimum capacity of 2.25-litre AFFF.
2006 MSA Competitors' Yearbook
The critical section in the 2006 "Blue Book" is Section J Paragraph 20.14.7 - "Vehicles of Periods A-F be equipped with a fire extinguisher in accordance with Q 3.1.2 (b). Other vehicles be equipped with a fire extinguisher in accordance with Q 3.1.2 (a)"
Section Q 3.2.1 (a) - AFFF or Zero 2000 type must be a minimum 2.25 litres and must be "Plumbed-In, for discharge into both cockpit and engine compartment".
Section Q 3.2 states all AFFF systems "must be FIA/MSA homologated"

Crash Helmets
The SNELL SA95 standard is being withdrawn on 31/12/2005
Tip - Check to see if your crash helemt is covered by more than one standard before you throw it away. I have a Bell for which the SNELL rating was withdrawn two years ago but I still use is as it is also SFI 31.2A - a standard that is still approved. Check out Q 10.3.1 for current standards.

Seats
During the 2005 season there were rumours that FIA approved and "in date" seats would be required for the 2006 season. This is not the case and the regulations on seats are unchanged.
However we suspect FIA approval will be a requirement soon so if you need to purchase a seat for 2007 our advice would be to make sure you purchase an FIA approved seat manufactured in 2007.
If you plan to compete abroad your safety equiptment including the seat and rollcage must be FIA approved and for seats within date.
